It's a Trap!
Of course out of all of my working titles for this painting, I choose to just title it by who its depicting. 8D;;
So this is my Planeswalker from the MTG universe, Ewan (known by himself and the other fae to be Llynewan instead). Yes, this is a male - but it is part of his character to be mistaken for a lady. In fact even the character himself doesn't know he's a male because been mistaken for the opposite for so long and has no context to the contrary. Basically Ewan has been hollowed out by the Fae to be used as their own personal vehicle to planeswalk. Ewan has no memories that aren't in vials strewn about his person. The two on his ears contain his personal information, but he hasn't tapped them for their contents in many, many years. The vial on his chest contains one single memory - that of when he was captured by the fae and the events leading up to that. The vials on his belt actually don't contain memories - they contain mana (one of each color, though he primarily taps them for Esper spells). He has tattoos on his wrist with names embedded in them - his own on one wrist (Ewan), and that of his mother and brother on the other. They frequently get faded but he reapplies them, usually inducing severe panic attacks when he's reminded that he once had a life before he was broken into the planeswalker that he is.
I had a lot of fun with this after about 8 failed attempts on many different days and a huge artblock that made me want to cry (and actually succeeded). Ewan seems to have successfully broken that - now, I may finally (mostly) confidently make my way back into the massive stack of commissions I have yet to finish! I needed to work on something for myself first though because I was suffering from quite a crash and burn x_x I meant to add a hundred or so Fae in the image but found that instead of adding to the image, they only took away from it. To be honest I feel weird about submitting this with 0 fae and while I'm still on the cusp of accepting this as the final version or not, but I know I could spend approximately another year on this if I don't just...stop.
There are quite a few MTG easter eggs for those who know the game strewn about - but it's just set symbols though. Lorwyn, Shadowmoor, Eventide and Morningtide are all in there. However, I also tried very hard to channel the Faerie Queen into this image.
Auuugh I could go on for days about my babz x_x I need to remember that things are best in moderation.
